Fight Club

Its actually been some days since i caught the show, but the impression is so lasting that i just have to blog about it.

I actually planned to watch the show some time ago, but due to some unforseen circumstances i simply did not. Recently though, i managed to get the show from one of the blokes down the hall. Ended up watching it with Isabel a few nights ago, and i must say the show is simply amazing.

Fight Club is based on a book by Chuck Palahinuk. His other work, Survivor, is one of the texts covered in one of my English units, thus i am able to relate to the content of the movie better than i would have had i not read that novel. Chuck's writing adopts a very gritty, down to earth style, reflecting the bitterness of life and a certain frustration with life in general. His is a carciature of everything that is classified as a stereotypical life- of boredom, or of excessive consumption for that matter. He insinuates anarchy into his writing that is justified, a solution to the problems that plague our world today. And he insinuates it with both flair and gusto.

There is so much black humor in the show i was laughing till i nearly cried. Anybody remember Mambo Happy Feet? He makes a cameo appearance!

What about the scene where the narrator describes Tyler's job? Hillarious

Another thing i liked about the movie- some of the quotes are simply mind blowing. Simple, yet they got me thinking. These are my favourite:

The Narrator: When people think you are dying then they really really listen to you
instead of just....

Marla: Instead of just waiting for their turn to speak.

Tyler: All the ways you wish you could be- thats me. I look like you wana look, i fuck like you wana fuck, i am smart, capable, and most importantly i am free in all the ways you were not.
